Dr. Karen Jackson is an Associate Professor in Economics and Assistant Head of School - Organisations, Economy and Society, and Senior Regional Coordinator for Westminster Business School, University of Westminster, London. Dr. Jackson has previously held positions at the University of Bradford (Head of Economics, China and East Asia Development Director and Senior Lecturer in Economics), UK Department for International Development (Economist) and the University of Sussex (Research Officer). Her research interests focus on international trade, finance and development. Dr. Jackson studied at the University of Sussex (DPhil), University of Nottingham (MSc) and University of Kent (BA). She is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.

Dr. Jeffrey D. Sachs is a world-renowned economics professor, bestselling author, innovative educator, and global leader in sustainable development. He is widely recognized for bold and effective strategies to address complex challenges including debt crises, hyperinflations, the transition from central planning to market economies, the control of AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, the escape from extreme poverty, and the battle against human-induced climate change.

Prior to joining Columbia University, Dr. Sachs spent over twenty years as a professor at Harvard University, most recently as the Galen L. Stone Professor of International Trade. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Sachs received his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees at Harvard.

Dr. Xiaobo Zhang is a senior research fellow in IFPRI’s Development Strategy and Governance Division and chair professor of economics at Peking University. He is a visiting fellow at the Center for Global Development and the European Institute for Chinese Studies. Dr. Zhang is the chief editor of China Economic Review. He is a co-principal investigator for the China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) survey and principal investigator for the Enterprise Survey for Innovation and Entrepreneurship in China (ESIEC). He received his PhD in applied economics and management from Cornell University.

Dr. Sergei Guriev is the Scientific Director of Sciences Po's Master's and PhD programmes in economics. He is a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) and member of the Executive Committee of the International Economic Association. In 2016-19, he served as the Chief Economist at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Dr. Guriev’s research interests include contract theory, corporate governance, political economics and labour mobility.

Sergei Guriev received his Dr. Sc. (habilitation degree) in Economics (2002) and PhD in Applied Math from the Russian Academy of Science (1994), and M.Sc. Summa Cum Laude from the Moscow Institute of Physics in Technology (1993).

Dr. Anna Kochanova is Lecturer in Economics at Cardiff University. She is applied economist, with research interests in political economy, institutional economics, international and private sector development. Before joining Cardiff University, Dr. Kocharova was a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective Goods, Bonn, from 2013 to 2017. She received her PhD in Economics from CERGE-EI, Prague in 2013 and MA in Economics, European University at Saint Petersburg in 2006.

Dr. Alemayehu Seyoum Taffesse is a Senior Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). His most recent research covered impact evaluation of safety net programs, inter-sectoral growth linkages, performance of cooperatives, crop productivity, aspirations and wellbeing, and rainfall indexed insurance. He is also the current president of the Ethiopian Economics Association. Dr. Taffesse has previously worked as an assistant professor of economics at Addis Ababa University and an economic affairs officer at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. He holds a D. Phil. degree in Economics from the University of Oxford.

Dr. Danielle Resnick is a Senior Research Fellow in IFPRI’s Development Strategies and Governance Division (DSGD). She is a political scientist who focuses on the political economy of development. Key research areas include the impacts of public sector reforms on accountability and efficiency, drivers of agricultural policy volatility and reform, urban governance structures and their influence on service delivery, democratization and political participation, and foreign aid effectiveness.

She has conducted fieldwork in Botswana, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Malawi, Nepal, Senegal, and Zambia. She currently co-leads IFPRI’s strategic research on Strengthening Institutions and Governance (SIG) and is IFPRI’s theme leader for Governance. Danielle received her Ph.D. in Government from Cornell University in 2010.
