IMF expert visits WIUT on Value-Added Taxes Featured

On 4 June 2019, Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) had the privilege of hosting Professor Rita de la Feria a world-renowned expert in tax law and policy; value-added tax (VAT): tax avoidance; tax fraud; international corporate tax reform. Professor Rita de la Feria is Chair in Tax Law, School of Law at the University of Leeds, England.

During her visit to WIUT, Professor Rita de la Feria discussed VAT: Best International Practice. Particularly, she discussed how VAT works; why VAT is so popular globally – spread of VAT; costs and benefits of exclusions from VAT base; and other important VAT questions, including VAT in Uzbekistan.

Rita de la Feria joined the School of Law at the University of Leeds in January 2016 as Chair in Tax Law. She is an International Research Fellow at the Centre for Business Taxation, Oxford University (2012-), and Visiting Professor at the University of Lisbon (2010-).
